This weekend, Robert and I were back in Niagara Falls, only to discover that one of our rather kitsch plastic planters on the porch had been newly occupied by a new family of robins who have laid eggs and were guarding them with their lives. The father and mother have been taking turns sitting on the sky-blue eggs. Once they realized we would not harm them, they shared the space on the porch with us without even fleeing in fear. We even had friends over and sat on the porch.
The birds sat motionless like wax figures. It's remarkable how the Lord had made these creatures to be so creative in building their little round nests, taking care of them and nurturing their future families. I cannot imagine harming them or disturbing the nests in any way, as many people would do out of disgust because of their "unsanitary" droppings.
I am like a little child all excited over the new family to be.
