This is one of the neighborhood cats we aren't sure has a home or not. I just gave him catnip. He rolled around a lot and meowed. I caught a euphoric meow.

This is a picture of Fourth Avenue in Warren. A thunderhead passed by us earlier this afternoon. I borrowed an old bicycle with only one gear and took a three mile spin. Other than that, just a lazy day.

Our two feline visitors have returned. We are not sure if they are strays or not. We are going to keep an eye on them. It is irresponsible of them not to have collars. They could be injured or get lost. My cat Obie is happy at home and we always know where he is.

We went to Dunkirk yesterday afternoon after Robert went to the emergency room with heart attack symptoms. After five hours and extensive tests, we found out he has some acid reflux problems. We took a little trip to celebrate not having a more serious issue.

After yesterday's heat and humidity, it got quite cooler. All next week will be in the low 70's with nights in the 50's. Our humble 2.5 room apartment is cozy enough. We painted and found some bric a brac to decorate it from second-hand stores and yard sales. It isn't like our home in Niagara Falls, but it is our second home. Our garden is coming along nicely with the marigold border in the front. We left our cat Obie in Niagara Falls for a few days while we are here in Warren, but are going to go get him tonight. We cannot leave him alone, even though he has friends and family looking in on him. He is too much a part of us. We note the absence with sadness.

Just a lazy day on the porch on a breezy, cool day in Niagara Falls.

Friday, July 10, 2009

Just a lazy afternoon. I got out the hose and squirted off the porch to clean it to get ready for painting it. Today, it hit about 80 degrees with moderate humidity. It is just lovely! This is the view I have from the porch while relaxing on my wicker armchair.

Obie's story

"My daddy took a picture of me to send to you. I am almost two years old now and am starting to feel more comfortable around people. When I was very young, I was left alone with no food or water in an apartment. I was very scared and got sick. I couldn't walk very well because I was so weak. I don't know why the people just left me. I tried to love them, but they were just mean. I barely remember it because I was so little.

Two nice ladies found me and gave me something to eat and drink.  I lived under a porch  for seven months. Then, my dad let me live with him. He treats me very nicely and never hits or hollers at me; like happened when I was very small. I try not to think about those times back then. It's nice to have some toys to play with and my own bed instead of the cold, wet ground. I'm very happy and not scared any more.

I like to sit on the window sill and watch all the little animals and birdies. I never seem to tire of that. When my daddy comes home, I always come to the door to see him to show him how much I love living with him."

This is an old stone hotel dating back to the early part of the 19th century which is now a pub with a lovely veranda. One can still get a room here and have dinner on weekends.

These visitors to our church were dressed up for the reinactment days at Fort Niagara. The man is from Sarnia, Ontario and the woman is from Eastern Pennsylvania. The Fourth of July brougt people from all over North America.

Robert's mother feeling much better and looking good after time in the hospital.

Today after church at St. John's Episcopal, I walked down to the Younstown, NY marina to enjoy the view of Niagara-On-the-Lake, Canada. The weather was marvelous.

Our fourth of July picnic.

We drove back home to the Falls last night. It always feels good to be back home. Tomorrow, we will go to some favorite haunts in Southern Ontario, and out for dinner. Unfortunately, the ice pulled down the gutter in the Winter. That will have to be repaired soon. We will be here until Monday evening.

Obie is in the window as usual. His favorite look-out place.

Dominic and Iva in Lewiston NY at the Silo restaurant which was constructed out of an old coal silo. It is overlooking the Niagara River.

Robert and I at Niagara Falls on June 29th.

Our friends Iva and Dominic next to Robert. They have never been to Buffalo and loved the neighborhoods and architecture. Here we are enjoying cocktails at a dockside restaurant called Shanghai Reds. This was taken on June 29th.

A belated posting of the Buffalo Marina with the skyline in the background.

Although I an posting this picture four days late, here is a picture of the Erie Basin Marina. It is well-kept and beautiful.

A very cute gaggle in Crescent Park in Warren.

Instead of weeds and little grass in front of our porch at the apartment in Warren, we planted a late vegetable garden with a floral border.

This little Episcopal church St. Alban is located in Silver Creek NY and just happens to be located on a creek.
